What is it about the industry you’re in that interests you?
Mining is one of Canada’s most important economic sectors and a major job creator. Generally mining offers the highest wages and salaries of all industrial sectors. Mining is unpredictable and exciting as many factors impact the growth such as commodity prices, foreign exchange, geology, etc.
How did you get your start with Continental Grain Company (Canada) Limited?
I was hired directly from BCIT as Intermediate Accountant after completing my double diploma in Financial Management and Computer Systems. I progressively increased responsibilities in finance, accounting, administration and informations systems over the twelve year period.
What are the most important skills you learned in post-secondary that have carried over to your career?
People skills and having a great attitude.
What advice would you offer someone considering to pursue a career as a CPA?
Make sure you build authentic relationships. Your ability to communicate and develop rapport with peers, mentors, customers, bosses and office staff will have a major impact on your career growth.
